Building Work – we have concrete

Nothing woolly to report this week; the builders dug out loads of soil from the barn and piled in up in front. This is making the place into a mud bath – we can’t go anywhere without traipsing mud after us.

Then they put in sub-base, compacted it down making the whole house shake, then dug out trenches for concrete

Then filled the trenches in with concrete

Next week I think they put in the damp-proof membrane and cover it with more concrete.

Meanwhile the drains at the back have been done, and Vince has recreated the garden and replanted the stawberries.

And at the other end of the drain we have a deep hole. This of course is deeper than the existing drains in order to get the flow from the far end of the building, so we are going to have to install a pump to get it up to the right level to go in the septic tank.

I bet you can’t wait to have the mud gone:)

The upside of the cold weather is that it freezes the mud :-)
The downside is that will probably be too cold to pour concrete :-(

Ups and downs in a mud bath… you should make a video of that, you could make a fortune!

Glad to see the barn finally being given some affection!

Man alive – I thought I had it bad when I did my house up; and that took 7 years! Think I would go insace with all that mud.

Glad things are moving along though. Hope you make it to the next gaming session where you can tall us all the gory messy details!

P.S Replanted the strawberries? In winter?

  5. graham says:

The strawberries had to be dug up when the garden was demolished to make way for the drains. It seems only fair to put them back in now the garden is back. And we are deliberately doing this over winter because the barn was used by lots of birds and we wouldn’t want to disturb their nest during the summer.
