A Mohair Egg!

Will it hatch into a goat kid?  Probably not. I suspect its destiny is to be a beautiful shawl, which will be a lot less noisy on the whole.  This was made on a lovely Thursday afternoon when Amber & Mr Mog came to visit.

Amber was worried that the mohair skein she had dyed in such gorgeous colours had tangled irrepairably.  However, we put it on my old skein-winder which gave enough tension for it to be wound.  This is the skein-winder – it came from an antique shop on the Welsh borders:

On it is a skein I spun a while ago – Blue-faced Leicester & silk from Fyberspates.  The basket is an oak swill made by local swill-maker Owen Jones who comes to Woolfest.  I found a video of him making one on You Tube!

We had such a great afternoon, chatting while I wound the egg, and the sun even came out.   Amber & Mr Mog brought wonderful gifts:

A tiny sock on its own blocker and a beautiful stitch marker – I’ve always used scrappy bits of wool, so this is a real treat.  And my very own Elemental:

She is a Water Elemental!  How did Amber know?!  Graham always says I have a special relationship with water (mostly because I seem to attract it to myself in vast quantities when I’m washing up).  I’ve decided the best place for her is this wicker fish, which my friend Marion gave me before she moved south.  I’ve still to think of a name for her.  Our local beck, if it has a name, is probably called the Duddle (at least Moor Duddle is the field through which it flows before going underground for a while).  That is hardly a good name for such a beautiful water spirit.  Perhaps Glenderamackin – this being the beck which flows through Mungrisdale over the fell.

It has rained ever since.  But I don’t think we can blame the Elemental, since it seems to have been raining everywhere.  One benefit (the only one!) of the rain has been a lot of fungi like this shaggy ink cap:

Now…..lunch or dye pot?
